Job Summary:

As a Healthcare Assistant – Blood Donation within our mobile team, you will be instrumental in facilitating blood donation sessions across various community settings and donor centers. Your role will involve setting up and preparing donation sessions, performing venepuncture, maintaining accurate records, and providing outstanding customer service to encourage repeat donations. This position offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of patients while working within a supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team.

Main Duties of the Job:

  • Set up and prepare blood donation sessions, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for donors.
  • Perform venepuncture (taking blood) with precision and care, prioritizing donor safety and comfort.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate records of donor sessions, adhering to strict medical standards.
  • Handle medical equipment responsibly, ensuring its proper maintenance and functionality.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, fostering a positive experience that encourages donors to return.
  • Collaborate effectively with medical professionals and other team members to ensure seamless operations.
  • Commit to flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, to meet the demands of mobile donation sessions. (Please note that there are no night shifts.)

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with the public in a customer service environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, reassure, and build rapport with donors.
  • A strong willingness to learn new technologies and complete required digital training.

Qualifications and Training:

  • A good standard of numeracy and literacy.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development, including the completion of the Skills for Health Care Certificate.
  • A valid full UK Driving Licence with no more than 6 penalty points.

Recruitment Process:

  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an in-person blood collection session tour to gain practical insight into the role.
  • This will be followed by a face-to-face interview (virtual interviews are not available).
