📝 The Role: Assistant Employee Relations Manager

As our new Assistant Employee Relations Manager, you’ll be a key part of the Employee Relations (ER) team, helping build a workplace where people feel respected, understood, and supported.

You’ll play a leading role in managing day-to-day employee relations matters, supporting colleagues and volunteers, and ensuring that Mencap remains a great place to work.

🔍 Key Responsibilities

As part of your daily role, you’ll:

Provide Expert Support

  • Assist in handling and resolving employee relations issues, offering practical, compassionate guidance that helps colleagues feel supported and understood
  • Support line managers with advice and coaching to ensure effective ER case management

Champion Inclusivity & Respect

  • Promote a workplace where diversity, dignity, and inclusivity are central to everything we do
  • Proactively address inappropriate behaviour and work to ensure a respectful, welcoming atmosphere across all teams

Spark Positive Conversations

  • Encourage open dialogue and build trust by creating safe spaces for honest conversations between colleagues, leaders, and teams
  • Help facilitate meaningful feedback and implement solutions based on real experiences

Collaborate Across the Organisation

  • Work alongside leaders, managers, and volunteers to share best practices and develop effective strategies for managing employee relations
  • Be a trusted voice on HR policy interpretation, employee engagement, and staff wellbeing initiatives

Drive Positive Change

  • Continually explore innovative ways to improve ER processes and create smoother, more supportive experiences for everyone at Mencap
  • Be a voice of progress in team discussions, offering fresh ideas, sharing insights, and helping deliver creative solutions to complex challenges
