This ten-week online course is aimed at fuelling your imagination while developing your skills in the craft of creative writing.

Do you have an idea for a story but haven’t yet captured it on the page? Or maybe you have a writing project in progress that has stalled? This ten-week creative writing course is aimed at fuelling your imagination while developing your skills in the writing craft. It is for writers of fiction (novels and short stories) and creative non-fiction (life writing or a hybrid of forms – memoir and travel for example). Or perhaps you don’t yet know what form is for you and your stories.

Over the ten weeks we will explore the key elements of storytelling, including: structure, character, showing and telling, setting, language and voice, point of view and editing. There will be weekly practical writing exercises alongside exploring published work to probe techniques and style.

The course is delivered through weekly online seminars which run for 2.5 hours on a Thursday morning UK time. Your tutors are novelist Rosie Chard, and short story and creative non-fiction writer, Jacq Molloy. Rosie and Jacq are both highly experienced writing tutors and published writers, passionate about writers developing their unique voices. They will work together to deliver the course so you will have the benefit of insight from two writers.

Wherever you are in the UK (or the world) this online course will enable you to develop and share your stories within an encouraging and supportive writing community.

By the end of this course – which is suitable for beginners or those with some experience – you will have deepened your knowledge of the writing craft and stirred your imagination into action.

The course runs on Thursday mornings from 10-12.30pm on 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 May, 5, 12, 19, 26 June and 3 July.

The ten-week course costs £399 including VAT. Payment plans are available. Contact Cathy Hayward at cathy@creativewritingprogramme.org.uk to find out more.

The course is run online using Zoom. When you pay your fee, you will be sent log-in details to our online learning platform which includes the full course structure and a forum where you can communicate with your fellow writers. The maximum group size is 15 writers.

Everyone is welcome, no matter how you identify or others perceive you.

At the end of the course, if you choose, you can continue onto the two-year Creative Writing Programme or Life Writing Programme with a solid understanding of creative writing and know how what to expect from the longer programme – which is run in-person in Brighton, Worthing, Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells – as well as online as part of The Creative Writing Programme, the leading centre for creative writing in the UK.
