From Idea to Impact: Mastering Conference Abstract Submissions

This event is organised by the SHAPE HDR and Postgraduate Students Committee, in conjunction with the SHAPE International Symposium 2025 to be held in Singapore from 30 June to 2nd July.

The panel event will showcase the following:

Why presenting your research is important

  • The benefits of showcasing your work at conferences, including networking opportunities, skill development, and visibility in your field.
  • How presenting research helps build confidence, enhances your CV, and opens doors to collaborations and future opportunities.
  • The significance of early career researchers sharing their findings and contributing to the field of academia and research.

How to navigate potential challenges

  • Common barriers to presenting research.
  • Practical strategies to overcome these challenges and make the most of the experience.
  • Personal success stories or testimonials from the panellists to inspire attendees.

How to craft an effective presentation

  • Key elements of a presentation, including structuring your talk, focusing on key findings, and engaging the audience.
  • Tips on creating clear, visually appealing slides and managing time effectively.
  • Tips on tailoring your presentation for audiences outside your specific research area to maximise impact.

Panel Members:

Dr Zhanming Liang: Dr. Liang is an accomplished academic and leader in health service management, currently serving as Associate Professor at James Cook University (JCU), where she established the JCU Health Management Group in 2022. Dr. Liang is also the President of the Society for Health Administration Programs in Education (SHAPE), where she plays a pivotal role in shaping health service management training across the Asia-Pacific.

Dr Fowie Ng: Dr. Ng is currently the Associate Professor at the School of Management and Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Health Information and Services Management (Hons) at Tung Wah College, Hong Kong. Dr Ng is also the Vice-President of the Society for Health Administration Programs in Education (SHAPE)

Dr Sm Ridwanul Islam: Dr Islam currently serves as the Accreditation & Quality Coordinator for the Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Behavioural Science at the University of Queensland (UQ). As a former industry supervisor for Griffith University’s Health Service Management (HSM) students, Rid remains dedicated to sharing his experience with emerging graduates.
