The Senior Undergraduate Advisor is
responsible for supporting students academic and personal success throughout their time at the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston
University. The Senior Undergraduate Advisor is primarily responsible for advising one-third of all undergraduate students in majors offered
by the Pardee School. The position also develops and coordinates a variety of programming and co-curricular initiatives related to academic
enrichment and opportunities and manages other duties as assigned. The Senior Undergraduate Advisor is a member of the Pardee School Student
Services team and reports to the Director of Student Affairs and Services and works closely with the Associate Dean for Studies. The Student
Services team is dedicated to supporting graduate and undergraduate students and to contributing to the Pardee Schools mission of advancing
human progress. Student Services staff work regularly with Pardee faculty and staff and participate in school-wide meetings and
functions.
Academic Advising
- Act as advisor and counselor to undergraduate students in the Pardee School
majors, which currently include International Relations, Asian Studies, European Studies, Latin American Studies, and Middle East & North
African Studies. - Meet and correspond with students regarding academic interests and goals, degree progress, course registration for
upcoming semesters, personal and academic concerns, study abroad, graduate schools, career counseling, and other academic issues to ensure
successful completion of degree programs. - Connect students as needed with campus resources that may support them in their academic
performance and personal wellbeing. - Serve as the primary source of information about the requirements of the various undergraduate
programs, the BU Hub (general education curriculum), policies, and other administrative information relevant for Pardee School undergraduate
students. - Be the primary correspondent with incoming students (first-years and transfers) and coach them through the online course
registration process. - Regularly update and maintain student records and data (e.g. advisor assignments, course exceptions, track
designations) in the various student information systems. - Communicate with professors regarding student concerns and ensure that
students receive appropriate faculty mentorship. - Develop materials to assist in advising including semester class schedules, study
abroad information, prospective student packets, orientation materials, etc. as required. - Communicate with the Associate Dean for
Studies and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs on matters such as academic planning, course enrollment, course approvals, and transfer
credit. - Update resources and information on the Pardee School website.
Program Management
- Plan,
implement and participate in all activities and events of, or related to, the Pardee School Undergraduate Office. - Collaborate with
other relevant Pardee School staff to manage programs such as Orientation (winter and summer), the Faculty Mentor Program, travel grants,
and the Honors program. - Attend University events such as study abroad expos, major fairs, orientations, student welcome events, and
Friends & Family Weekend as a representative for the Pardee School. - Serve on the University-wide Recruitment and Yield Committee
and manage Pardee’s participation in admissions events such as the April open houses and the various visiting programs. - Meet with
prospective students and their families and share information regarding the Pardee School and its academic and co-curricular programs. - Coordinate with colleagues to manage the day-to-day operations of the office space as well as hiring and managing student employees and
interns.
Student Affairs & Services
- Contribute to initiatives and efforts that benefit and/or involve
undergraduate and graduate students. - Participate in the planning and implementation of career and professional development events
and programs. - Research and share information on careers, internships, graduate school, study abroad, scholarships, and other
professional development opportunities. - Collaborate with relevant staff on the BA/MA dual degree program, Dean’s Ambassadors, and
preparation for major events such as Convocation.
Required Skills
A cover letter is required for

Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of experience, or Master’s degree and 3-5 years of experience required.

interacting and collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and parents of diverse backgrounds. - Project and/or event management
skills such as logistical planning and publicity. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software. - Academic background in international
relations and similar subjects is helpful but not required.
